Post subject:  need quickly - how to change water pump on SR20DET

At todays drift event it all got too hot under the bonnet. When I checked it was either the water pump or water pump gasket leaking badly. Thats not so bad, but its now 8pm and by 8am tommorow I have to be with the car for my next race!! I've got a new water pump sat here and will probably get up very early tomorrow morning and change it. If someone could give step by step instructions for this, or post a link that would be great. Main thing is how do you get the visous fan off and back on!

Thanks in advance,
Rich

If you haven't got there yet:

remove fan shroud (or radiator completely)
Remove 4 nuts on the back of the viscous clutch (10mm of the top of my head)
Remove belt
remove pump.

sr's are easy, they sit right out in the open. rb's are teh suck for shit like that cos of the belt driven cams

You don't even need to completely remove the shroud. There is a detachable bit at the back to allow the fan to be removed.

Probably also a good idea to back off the fan belt tensioner before undoing the viscous fan too

Thanks for the info, after a hectic weekend I got it sorted this morning. THe main problem I had was I had tried to get the viscous fan off before by taking out the 4 bolts but it did not want to come off. I figured there must be something else holding it on. At 7am this morning I had to change the pump so brute force, a big hammer and large screwdriver removed it  Turned out the fan assy was just well stuck over the water pump shaft.

I'll have some vids, pics and stories from yesterday and today as soon as I've recovered and done the editing. A crazy weekend :o

Cheers,
Rich
