yeah but as its smaller you can mount it further back, the weight balance is better, hence why mazda was able to achieve near 50/50 weight balance on the rx7s. (and hence were marketed by mazda as a front-mid engine).

like I said before, if anyone was that serious abit it, theyd have an MR car...

I own an mr2 (sw20 and aw11 before that).. yet I dont claim it to be the be all and end all of race cars because of the weight balance...

everyone talks so much crap, yet i dont see anyone practicing what that preach (apart from dumhed ofc)..

yeah my mates 13b 180 weighed in at about 40kg more than my sr 180 and we both had the car stripped to similar levels

Had an FC rx7. Didn't like the maintenance bills. Handled well for a stocker. if there was a decent affordable MR car with decent aftermarket support all the serious guys would have one. Sorry but despite the marketing the SW20 MR2 is too heavy in the rear and the handling on the limit reflects it. Toyota have taken a fwd box and diff and stuck it behind the seats. It virtually sits the engine and box on top of the rear wheels, so it's far from optimum, but hey, it's technically MR. About the only fr/mr i'd consider would be a race only fd rx7. But when you consider that one with the proper mods still cost double what a well sorted s13 does you'd have to be mad to go that way. And then you have the premium rotor maintenance costs which i still cringe at even 8 years on. Or a lotus 7 copy/caterham. Again the buy in is too high. I have dumheds old NA s13 living in my garage (which has had even more weight removed from both front and rear), conveniently located right next to my old 250+rwkw rb25. I have never even considered the swap as i have stated many many times on this forum that an RB should not be put in an S car and i stand by that.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJ9xc35Z3Vo my rb25 conversion was finished last week... no noticeable negative change in handling for drift, can actually feels more stable drifting with the extra weight up front... still transitions quick as it used to, and is snappy when I need it to be, eg quick weight shift or scando to initiate... so far it slides as good as or better than with the SR. feels much more controllable and stable when I throw it in at higher speeds. this is most likely due to the increase in power providing more traction, outweighing any negative handling issues. will be taken to wakefield in January.
