You need to think of football as more of a highly skilled game of chess. :) That's why when goals are scored, they're usually pretty spectacular. I'm not a fan of the penalty shoot outs to decide a game though, but I'm not too sure how else you'd would decide a game. The match could go on for hours if say it was decided by the next scorer after full time.

I would be more inclined to say that american football is akin to chess than football is.

maybe the number of players needs to be changed,or the rules need to be altered to allow easier scoring perhaps? or maybe extend the length of the halves to allow more opportunities?

All those ball games bore me shitless. Soccer(or "football"), any kind of rugby, cricket, etc. It's not all that good for socialising, unless you're around people who aren't retarded.

Those same people who will put their alarm on for 3am so they can get on the computer and watch a live soccer match will question how i can sit infront of the tv and watch car racing; "cars going around a circuit 100 times". Hell, maybe NASCARs can get a little repetitive, i'd rather watch them for 6 hours than 10 minutes of rugby or football.

I'm not surprised why football is not the first game in Australia after what I have read :o

It is the MOST played, watched, enjoyed and practised game in the WORLD :)
If you think that the MAJORITY of the WORLD have no taste in football or something like that, I'd suggest that you watch more real football :)

lets be serious here. Before the world cup when aust couldnt qualify it wasnt even known but when aust qualified it became better known. Why would the aust media show stuff that aust is not good at? Also, the standard of soccer of a league is nothing compared to some of the sides playing in series a, FA Primership and the spanish league. Is just that they have nurtured the players and have a program in play to get those talents.

One thing is Harry Kewell also, he is a good player when he is fit but dont know how long he has to go with all his injuries or whelther liverpool kill keep him when he hasnt done any return for them.

I reckon a good rule to spice up soccer is to introduce back court violation like in Basketball.

Once u pass the half way mark, u cannot pass back. Hence the game is constantly moving forward.

It's so boring to watch them pass around and amount to nothing (think The Simpson's episode with the soccer match).

The ball is bound to slip in sometime.

Contrary to my above post, i won't change the channel as quickly if it's AFL, the fighting is pretty amusing. That's about all it has going for it though.

afl is alright. Very fast paced game and the players have to be fit. Like soccer I havent really seen the in field ref being fat except the goal post ref who just do the fingers for goals.

AFL is dirty as! There's so many cheap shots and off the ball incidents.

It's ignorance about the ins and outs of a sport that make it boreing or unappealing to others. I can watch test match cricket all day because I see every ball as being different, with each ball being bowled to select field placements. Theres a battle between the bowler and batsmen with the bowler trying to tempt the batsman into a particular shot to his placed field. Then there's the batting - There's nothing like seeing an in-form batsman taking appart the attack of an opposing side. Don't even get me started in Gilchrist's innings in the World Cup final 8) !
Anyone who doesn't take the time to understand all of this will find watching paint dry more entertaining.

Same can be said for most sports.

Back in the day my grandfather used to play for australia in rugby. We have his old gersy with grass stains on it framed, unfortunately he died before i was born. My father played footy and soccer, so did my brother and i played footy, they are great sports to play and watch, and a great tradition.

Dear all,

Just wanted to boast that chelsea beat liverpool today in the morining 1-0. It should be interesting what happens in the second leg in anfield. It was a good math against ac milan and man u as well. I am predicting chelsea to overcome the 3 points to win the english league again and real madrid to go trophyless again.......... :)

How wrong you were. Go the peanalty shootout to give Liverpool the victory this-morning!
