i guess being a nsw forum you will be familiar with nsw laws. im wondering if anyone knows the finer details about the modification of vehicles being driven by a provisional license driver. i'm aware that the engine cannot be enhanced in any way ie. turbo, cams etc, but can i fit a set of extractors to my car? extractors don't really boost engine performance as much as they put air through the exhaust quicker, so i can't see how it upgrades the engine performance wise since it is part of the exhaust system. I'll make it even more obvious: high performance street legal tires are gonna shave seconds off your lap times, allow you to take corners at higher speeds, give you better launches etc etc but these can be fitted legally under the laws since they are not an "engine upgrade". Using this argument, I cannot see why better extractors would be illegal, since nothing to the engine has been changed. Any advice would be a great help. |

emissions mate.... and there is a small gain in power with extractors and a full exhuast. but generally it emissions. it the same as sticking a pod on. |

anything that alters the tune of the engine contributes to it's emission output. whether it makes it less harmful or not is irrelevant as far as the RTA is concerned,as they haven't tested what you've done,so they don't sanction it,and therefore,you can be defected for it. proper extractors can make quite a difference to how an engine runs,especially when you then re-tune the fuelling and ignition to take advantage of the better flow. you MAY be able to take the 'replaced damaged parts' angle,saying that your std manifold cracked,and the most practical replacement was an extractor manifold,but that still wouldn't cover the emissions side of things. in short,you'd have to get them engineered,but the law does say NO MODS,so even with a cert. the answer is likely still no.
