Post subject:  Silent exhaust...where to get one?

I was looking at those HKS 'Silent' exhausts the other day, from a few sponsors on NS.com - but they don't seem to have any for S13s?

Are they made for S13s, and where could I get one?

Before you ask why: I have new neighbours that have moved in, and they are really nice. When I come home very late at night from work I park in our carport (right next to their bedroom window) and the noise reverberates something shocking. In fact, my family hates my exhaust/car so much they are willing to pay for a 'Silent' one. Dad didn't think they existed!

I don't want to go back to a stocko one because they are too restrictive, I won't be able to cut sik as much anymore. Out of interest, would there be any disadvantages to having a silent exhaust such as the HKS ones as opposed to the normal HKS Super-Dragger ones or whatever?

Ive seen exhausts with a built in electronic silencing system so you can adjust in-cabin as you want, I would assume its all in the cannon so it shouldnt be a problem to fit your s13.

I have a different type of silencer for my skyline, it simply slides in the cannon and held with a small nut and bolt and it tones it down heaps.
Maybe that might do the job, itd be cheaper too.

I can get you Apexi ECV pretty cheap. It will let you to control the loudness from the inside of the cabin.

Let me know if you are interested. It will be much-much cheaper than buying Silent power.

They generally have a butterfly valve somewhere between the cat and last muffler which controls the flow of gas and sort of functions as a baffle. Beats getting booked for 'too noisy' or pissing off the neighbours at abnormal hours.

it bolts on between Cat converter and cat-back pipe. then there is a little cord going to the inside of the cabin that lets you turn that butterfly to either open it or close it.

MAXBOOST has an ECV for sale.

I have an APEX'i 3" catback on my car that's only slightly louder than the stock exhaust. It's not super restrictive either - the car is making 171rwkw with a T25g.

I have a similar thing, and would agree it tones down the exhaust quite a lot. Cheap alternative, although it sounds like funding isn't a problem.

i dont know what my cat back system is but its very quiet in comparison to others. ill ask everyone i meet to have a look to see if they can identify it (i cant because theres no plate on it and its underside is scraped). i have a 3" front and dump but ive got the standard cat. that def. has something to do with it too.
