Heya,

I have an SR 180sx and it cranks but wont start. There is a fuel smell out the exhaust so fueling is fine, I'm pretty sure its the CAS as I swapped the CAS over from my other engine when I installed it, problem is I never took note of the position it was in and now need to re-set it.

I have the S14 workshop manual but it doesnt explain how to set the CAS, I assume I need to move the crank till its on TDC, then take the cover plate of the CAS, remove the CAS and line it up somehow, my issue is I dont know what to line it up to or how to know which stroke cylinder 1 is on eg. TDC Intake or TDC Exhaust.

Anyone know??

Cheers

you don't need to take the cover plate off the CAS.

The alignment marks are on the CAS shaft, and when you install it with the crank in the right place (TDC for cylinder 1 on the compression stroke) it will line up correctly.

I have found the procedure in the workshop manual to be a bit hit and miss. I come across this problem regularly when installing aftermarket cams and following the workshop manual doesn't seem to work.
The workshop manual will give you a good idea where the CAS needs to be, but i don't think it works on all engines
