im led to believe it can work on an n16 pulsar, however ud need the odb2 plug, and know which wires on the odb2 are for consult. ive been meaning to check this out myself, but as the cheapest i can find obd2 connectors for is $30 at jaycar, its not high on the todo list (would add ~15$ to cost of device)

if u can track down obd2 plugs for cheaper than jaycar i can look into it

link to jaycar one - as it turns out, theyre on special atm, 25$!

any chance u know of the wiring for the obd2 plug in the n16? just need the power, gnd, tx, rx (dont think it has clock?)

i also have 3 imperfect/test boxes which are available if anyone wants one for cheaper. note i cant guarantee all of them will dump entire rom (or other extended operations, but less chance of that) without hanging. im pretty sure the first two can (but havent been able to get box3 to yet), but cant actually remember so assume it cant.

box 1: 3 leds (power, transmit/receive), larger box, short cable to proper consult plug (~50cm) and serial plug on box. some serial cables may not fully insert (but still connect...my normal serial cable is fine, but the usb-serial converter, which is fatter, doesnt go in all the way due to other connector on side of it) $35

box 2: no leds (not even power), 50cm to serial plug, 170cm to wires for consult port - no consult plug. need to watch connectors dont break. $15

box 3: one of the boxes i was making in this thread, perhaps due to imperfect component somewhere (dont have time to check/replace everything), i havent been able to dump full rom with it. 50/170cm cable lengths or there abouts, with consult plug. $35

heres the first two:

box2 youd need to be able to hook it up to consult port yourself. this is around or less than cost of components to make them (consult plug itself is half the cost), with the only real downside being possible hanging with long operations (typically rom dumping...potentially normal data logging/viewing/gauges etc could hang, but not much chance of it). i have no real need for them, so thought someone who wants one for cheap that isnt interested in rom dumping might be interested. pickup preferred so u can see it working, but given they are so cheap, cant really afford to provide any assisstance with them.

Peter

consult is diagnostic protocol on nissan cars made in the 90s, which you can get sensor values from, and perform active tests (eg shutting off a cylinder, etc)

easiest way to see roughly what it can do is check out screenshots on this site: http://home.curl.aunz.net/tpkolo/DataScan.htm

can also get error codes and so on. hooks up to a 14 pin grey connector near your fuse box

yeh im not assembling them myself anymore (which is why i got the custom pcb made and other stuff so people could put them together themselves)

usb one being sold for 130 (120 + 10 postage) by a sponsor on ns.com here.

but given serial->usb converters are like 10-15$ (try search "serial usb" on ebay), its not really worth getting it unless you know u will use it a lot

also ur confusing serial with paralell...serial is 9 pin, paralell is the 25 pin printer one. just check out the pictures in the construction guide (links on sau thread)
