Is there any chance of getting a car engineered with an aftermarket turbo?

Ring an engineering place and also check the regulations on the RTA site.

It is possible, make sure that the engineer is approved by the RTA.

You can get a list of engineers from the RTA.

Yea it is possible but ur emmisions have to fall into the regulations. If you get a direct bolt on onto the standard manifold, should be ok. If you get a big ass turbo, then I doubt it would make it. But again, best to check with an engineer.

What happens if you fail?

Will they contact the RTA to say there is a car with illegal mods driving around?

They wont do anything, they will let you drive out of there the same way you drove in. A few months back we talked to an engineer and he said, even if ur planning to get ur car engineered, u can rock down to the EPA book it in with them for an emmisions test and you can drive out of there even if you fail the emmisions test. Dont ask me how that works. I dont know, just tellin people what I have heard.

Yep, thats correct. The reason they provide that service is so people can modify their car and then test them to see if they are still within the emissions guidelines or what they need to do to get them there. It would pretty much defeat the purpose if they then defected the car on the way out. FWIW there are a lot of cars which have been emissions tested and fully engineered with big turbos, as long as you do the work well you really shouldn't have a problem.

Thats great news to hear about the EPA letting you do that.
i've been defected three times, and twice the police asked if I had an engineering cert, and damn did I wish I had one.

Is there a site that says what you can and cannot do to your car, things you can get engineered, modifications such as wheel size, noise, pollution level, turbo size etc.

Help would be great

Best thing to do is grab the list of approved engineers off the RTA site, call the ones close to you then sit down with one and go through the mods and see what you need to do to get the car engineered. The rules aren't as cut and dry as "you can go X amount larger with the turbo", it's more showing them that the car has been modified properly and safely.
