thats pretty cheap! how old are you mayhem? is that for 60% NCB? and are you in Sydney? Cos that seems to be amazingly cheap for a SR20... especially in Sydney

I'm looking at getting my car reinsured with them, do they beat Just Cars by much? I'am paying $2400 per year with $1900 excess, from what I hear famous will get a much better price.

when i rung up they required a 3 point immobiliser system. Im not sure whether or not this applies to existing customers, but it might be an idea to check with them. id hate to see someones car getting stolen only to find out they arent covered.

Just a note of warning. I just spoke to Robin on the phone from Famous Car Insurance. I am currently paying $1400 for my insurance with a broker called Jardine Lloyd Thompson who go through Zurich Insurance, who are jacking up the prices next year to $3500. I am 23 with 30% NCB driving an 2002 S15 insured for $45,000. Robin could not match this price  . The thing is, i asked her about modifications. She said that you can do anything to your car provided that its LEGAL. Guys, the word LEGAL is up for discussion these days. She said that if the police can defect your vehicle for having certain mods, so i mentioned BOV, exhaust, air filter, they may void your policy. Which means, if you have these mods and your in an accident where by you are at fault, they MAY not pay the claim. She said that they do not decide on what is legal or not, thats up to the government and the police. So guys, it might be a good idea for those who are currently insured with them just to make sure. When your insuring your baby, the word MAY is not acceptable. I guess most if not all insurance companies operate this way. Atleast with my insurance company i can trust, since I had an accident December last year which was worth about $12,000 in damages, they accepted the claim and paid for it. I had a fmic, bov, filter, exhaust, since these were the obvious mods ( but I had other mods that were not disclosed  ). I have always been scepticle on what an insurance company classifies as "LEGAL" and "ILLEGAL". So please becareful.

Dont take my previous statement as a means to smear Famous Car insurance's name. Robin is a very nice person to speak to, and understanding. But i dont care how nice you are, or how much you care, at the end of the day, I just want to know if I am covered if I have an accident. Either I'm covered, or not. Simple :D

ok your a p plater, that instantly means they think
"ohh shit, he will be in the local industrial area drifting"
or
"ohh shit he will roll it racing another p plater in a camry",
"ohh shit he cant drive for shit",
and many other similar instances.

Have you had insurance before ?
If not, they have no history on you, so they charge more.

You are a much higher risk statisticly than say the 30yr old down the road with say 10yrs of driving experience.

Your 19, they dont like young people, they drive to fast.

You are more likly to run up the back of some one while checking out the chick (or guy if your that way inclined) in the car next to you.

This is your first car too right ? Because you have no insurance history.
It all comes down to statistics and risk.

They are in business to make money.
They will be cunts to get out of paying you.
They will use any technicality they can to not pay you..

My mother is a national manager for one of the insurance companies.
I get to hear all the stories of p platers taking out 3 cars in fivedock ect

(1 bmw series 5, 1 monaro, 1 comodore + the magna he was driving, total damages he did over 150k , his chance of getting insurance in the next 5-10 years cheaply, not so good. He was lucky cops couldnt prove something so they had to pay it out, other wise he was up for it, now if he had say a intercooler on his car and not told the insurance company they could have denied that claim.... make you wonder..)

what kind of proof of your no claim bonus do you need?

i was on my sisters 3rd party insurance for a year (the year of 2002) i think as a nominated driver (and not just the age range of drivers including me so that i was covered) - i hope i was at least

Get who ever has the policy in there name to phone up and ask for a letter with "nominated drivers name" insurance rating on it.

They usaly take 1-2 weeks (going by gio here)
